Some advice, finding a mentor

Hey guys,

So quick overview,

I met a guy at school who has been surfing for 10+ years and he's really good. So I talked to him and he gave me his number like 2 weeks ago.

So I've asked him to go out a couple of times, but most of the time he doesn't pick up the phone. I don't call like everyday or anything.

I'm new to surfing, so I thought it would be great to find someone to help me out.

If you guys were him, what would you want me to do so that I would go surfing with you?

But besides that, I've been going out every day since I got my board, een on horrible days to practice my paddling. So maybe I should just learn on my own?

Its better to surf with someone the same or slightly above the level your at. You will push each other and progress without slowing one another down.

yep its best to go out with someone your own skill level that way you back eachother up and get into the whole anylzing bit. its hard to teach someone to surf unless you are getting paid as all you wanna do is surf and not deal with the instructing part. unless its a woman then they would have my undivided attention

Lolz, get the drift.

Thanks a lot.

I guess I was looking at an excellerated learning curve, thinking to surf with someone who is way more experienced :).

Makes sense going out with someone who is a little bit better then you.

Your next 'call should be something like this :-

“ Hi, just calling to say I have found a surfer about the same level as me so, and please don’t be offended, we are going to surf together.

If you don't mind though, maybe you could give a few tips and pointers if the surf isn't that good one day and we see you in the water ? Thanks again _ _ _ _ _ _ “

If you can't find a surfing mate, well crack on but be careful - and still occasionally try this dude for some help in a couple of months or so.

Might be good :D
