Keep your center of gravity low, keep your rear foot over the fins and learn how to pump down the face to generate speed.

It's basically moving up and down the wave, and by using the wave's momentum; you gain speed. It will come naturally, with practice, and you'll be speeding down sections in no time. :D

Twin fish or quad? If it's a twin it's a whole different world of surfing; quad will do a lot for you, twin it's all what you do that makes it work. If it's a twin and you're on a backhand wave (rights, for me as I'm goofy) try grabbing the rail and dropping in your back knee as you do the bottom turn. This will give you the feel for where your center of gravity needs to be to make a twin fish fly. The biggest keys are, like CHarvey said, keep the CoG low, and learn to pump. So you just need to swoop it up and down the wave face in the right way. If you're trying to beat a section, watch for the section to start to form, and try to time it so you swoop up to the lip just before the section breaks; nice and low on your board at the top and then push the board down and under you as you go back down the wave around the section. ... i don't know how to describe it better really, but it's all practice. For me, riding a twin fish, grabbing then rail and dropping my back knee down made the difference between understanding how to ride that board and just being confused about it. Watch Rastovich surf in his segments in Blue Horizon.... especially on the weird purple fish and the black fish that he rides so much in that vid.

You can tell more about "trim" (more of a nautical term tho) by paddling around your board. The board should feel flat to the water and you should seem to glide on the water.

If you are too far foward the nose dives in, too far back you put on the breaks.

Re: pumping. It's something I am trying to figure out myself right now and I have watched a lot of videos of people doing it on shortboards, but I never saw it clearer then in thisvideo of a longboarder.
