You are a very lucky (soon to be) surfer

Hi Lauren Elizabeth, welcome to Surfing Waves.

You may not think so but you are a very lucky (soon to be) surfer. You are based where there are loads of waves to learn on, you have people who can help you learn to surf, there is a surf school close to you if you want to try out some lessons.

If you are from Perth then pretty much everyone you know must surf - I think your best bet is to get one of your friends to take you out on a small day just for a mess around.

i am embarressed they'll think i look stupid

No-one can surf well when they first start, so get in there and start to learn. At Secret Harbour in the summer you are sure not to be the only one in the water who cannot surf very well.

Go and have a look around our main site and have a look at all the information there. It is all geared around learning to surf and looks at the absolute basics that you need to know, there are sections on waves, surf talk and lots more. Have a read and you will have more of an idea.
If you cannot learn to surf then no-one can.

Would anyone else like to offer Lauren some advice or helpful hints or tips?

Surfing Waves main site

Postby surf patrol » Fri Feb 20, 2004 5:54 am

Just click the Surfing Waves banner in the top left hand corner of the page and that will take you through to the main site.
It is not very clear that this forum is anything other than just that, but it is more of an add-on to the main site. It was not at all clear that there was anything more, so hopefully the "Click for Surfing Waves Main Site" message I have added might get a few more visitors to the main bit.

On a surfing note did you catch any of the swell at the weekend - it was pretty nice, I took a couple of photos after a surf and am going to put them on the main site when I get the chance.

Big Margaret River Waves

Postby surf patrol » Fri Feb 20, 2004 11:11 am

Margs was supposed to be 10-12ft+ I saw. That's a bit big for me - doing most of my surfing in the past back in the North Sea in England I don't have much experience in 10ft surf! Still, now I am here I may get more of a chance I guess.

Do you know anything that would treat a stinger

You really need to treat stings straight away, vinegar does the job - pour all over the stings as soon as you can. If it is still playing up after 3/4 days you might still have some of the stings under your skin. If this is the case you might need a trip to the pharmacist to get something to draw the stings out - Zinc paste should do the job according to my nursing advisor (girlfriend). You could also try repeated bathing of the sting area with water as hot as you can stand.
