Hi all i am brand new to surfing and still abit wet behind the ears, bought a soft board for myself and the kids to learn on, but all of us find it very slippy, this probably sounds a really stupid question( go easy on me) is it wet boots/shoes i am missing or can i add something to the board to stop us slipping off, the board is an ALDER 7.o .

Await some serious and not so serious replies :D

hmm, I would say WAX is what you are looking for. I know most soft boards dont NEED wax, but if you are finding it slippy then I know most modern foamies can take a layer of wax.

just go to your local surf shop and ask for some wax that suits your water temp...

cold water - uk etc
cool water - usa now
warm water - errr somewhere hot!!

as for boots, thats personal choice, where u surfing?
if its cold like it is in the uk, boots can go a long way to making your sessions last longer.

good luck dude

Try using booties (the surfing shoes). Those things grip like crazy.

Too much sometimes. When I put on a new layer of wax and then surf with booties, I can hardly move my feet once I'm standing. It's like they're glued to the board... But I would agree with the comments above: wax it up.

yeah my mate is new to surfing, his also got an alder 7ft. He went out once because i never knew that softboards needed waxing?! But he kept falling off and stuff before he got up because his hands slipped off the board, so we waxed it up and it was pretty much fine! Those Alder boards are so much fun you can catch anything with them! Have fun!!

It's preference really, I hate wearing booties just because you can't feel the board as much under your feet, but they do keep you very toasty :D

You UK surfers amaze me. So cold, so very, very cold.

The Stoke is powerful indeed.

I like my small, mushy, flat sometimes but oh so gloriously warm Gulf of Mexico.
