Surfing Waves

Hey all ,,, yes I'm 39/ M in So Cal and surfed when I was 15 to 17 learned with no help and I can't say I taught myself well but at least I did it and yes could stand and turn but it is not quite like ridding a bike. Now I'm gonna do it again and won't stop till I die but I'm nowhere close to knowing what the f--- I'm doing and don't realy know where to go??

I do know not to get out and screw over fellow dudes on sticks waiting in the line up ,that would even piss me off but trying in the white wash is the s#!tiest and only frustrating me, paddled out to green water and stood up twice and that's about it.

I do have a large quiver of boards short and long new and used and currently am on a 8'-4" surftech softtop and am dying to try a real 8'-5" that I set up with dif fins.

I don't know anybody here or where to go ???? looking for sombody to surf with in the south bay and this Sat I'm goin to San O, was told good and fun spot without the 405 freeway attitude, just looking to surf not beat somebody down (yes I'm quite capable of fighting and I don't take crap from anybody!!!!! ) but would prefer not to go that route. Supposed to be havin fun not fightin, If anybody is down for surfin with an older dude or want's to look like a pro (compared to me!!) or any info on where I can go that dosen't screw over better surfers or line up I would dig the help or hints. check your wannafight ideas at home too. at 39 and prolly out of shape ya might end up underwater longer than you want!!

I don't encourage you to pursue your midlife crisis revival of your youth, it is far to crowded and full of " i can kick your ass" kind of people out there already.

If you are hell bent on surfing......stay away from the crowds for the first few years, check your tude before every paddle, and surf for the stoke of surfing and the enjoyment of the ride, not for any other lame macho reason!

But annyways ya I hear what your tryin to say but mabie you should look into sombody before you try to assume somthing.

og you ned to to listen up......you are a beginner, go to beginner spots. If you see surfers who surf better than you, give way and take their shi# if they give it to you. As a ranger you know there is a pecking order in life, in surfing you are the scratch. Assume your position, embrace it, and go with it. If you paddle at some places I frequent, you will get shiz if you are in the way. If you won't take the criticism with a grain of salt, then you will get a beat down. I'm sure you think you are in shape, and can take down the world.......check that NOW! If you want to come up to Ventura I will show you some beginner spots, where it is ok to be in the way, it is expected.

^so when a grom is floundering in the way and a ripper puts them in their place. ie: "hey you little turkey, get out of here, you are in the take off zone, you are gonna get people hurt!!!"

does the grom?
A) Talk some shiz, splash water and start a fight.
B) Flash the bird.
C) Ignore advice
D) Say sorry, and quickly oblige the request of the better surfer.

just what every line up needs is a muscle head with a " won't take shiz attitude."

Parry, pipe down just because you are better at surfing than olgrom. At least he's humble about it, and knows to go to SanO where there are tons of beginners. We were all beginners one time and should be given advices, not talked down. Oldgrom shouldn't just paddle to where the experts are, for the simple reason: Safety. At SanO, there are tons of breaks and reforms away from the main piles. Flying soft tops are a given. I can do less with those oh-i'm-so-good-800$-board-too-good-for-a-few-pressure-dings-from-a-beginner. It's SanO ok? If you are so amazing, go to northshore and charge 20 footer and pipeline. See if you pee in your pants instead of talking down to beginners. I do agree with Parry though: most good surfers are gracious enough and should gently remind someone to pick another spot away from the fast lane. It's more safety, and fun for everyone. As for oldgrom: keep stoked, age is only a number.

My brother just moved to San Clemente, and has started going to Old Man's quite a bit, Oldgrom. He likes being the youngest guy in the lineup at 45

I'll see if I can't steer him to this forum and maybe you guys can hook up for some waves.
