new board

hey sup dudes, jus went out to montauk, longisland this past week...caught some really nice waves, yesterday mainly but i still need a lotta work. im lookin into buyin a board so i can go whenever i want w/o having to go through the trouble of renting and stuff...i was looking at the minimal, pop-outs, softboards, and long boards...any1 have ne suggestions on which type is the best and then which board in that catagory would be a good board to start out with? also what a good size to start with is? i was using the 9'0" yesterday which was really nice cuz i actually got up on it so i guess im lookin for a board on the longer side to start out with

i'm 5'9" - 190 lbs (cuz of all that muscle :D ..lol)- 16 y/o

when any of you have a chance jus reply back and lemme kno what i should get and start workin with

in addition to the choices of boards i listed above...wha bout funboards? and if i repeated the same type of board in the same term, sorry bout that, jus gettin to learn all this

well i strongly suggest not buying a softtop or foam board, they are for learning and do not manuver very easly for when you get better. im sure you dont want to be buying a new board next year. i would go with something thats factory made, definitly not custom. but it all depends on what you want to ride.

now if you want to be a longboarder for a while, then get something in the 8'5" area or the same size you were riding as a rental.
if you want to be a shortboarder, i would go with a 7'2" something around there. (people do not suggest doing this since learning on a shortboard is hard, but i taught myself and didnt know it would be hard and i learned on a 6'0)

oh yah srry..i didnt mention that i jus started surfing this week..i rented just soft tops but still not sure which board i should get since im pretty much a beginner...the website that this forum is on suggests eithe a soft top, pop out, minimal, stuff like that....lemme kno what else u think..thanks
