softop or hardboard

I have both a 8' softop and a 9'6" hard surfboard. I have been surfing for about a year but haven't got to get out alot so I'm not very experienced. Now that I have a chance to surf more I'm wondering which board I should bring out. I'm much more comfortable with the softop because it can't hurt me. It's also shorter and the break I surf isn't really a longboard spot. The hard surfboard is also really old and waterlogged. I want to use the softop but I'm afraid when I make the transition from softop to hardboard it will be really wierd and difficult. How different do the different boards ride? Should I take out the softop or the hardboard?

I can catch waves and am a good paddler so I'm not completely new.

Sell the soft top and waterlogged board to a tourist and use the money to buy a used longboard that is in decent shape.

I can't sell the boards because they're not mine, they're my dads, and he is very against selling them.

dont listen to them, if your confident on the softtop surf that one. Softboards are fine, i still surf mine on small sloppy days to have fun and ive been surfing for ~8 years now.
