Howdy, as those of you who follow this forum know, I am new to surfing and live in So. Fl. were we rarely get waves especially during the summer. Thus when we do have a good day of waves we are not in surfing condition. I've been training in the gym doing the usual stuff however, the other day while on the beach there was a female lifeguard in her tower doing this cool exercise. So I tried it, It's the next best thing I found to being on the board, even better than swimming. So if your looking to do some training on land give this a try it's so simple! Get an elastic band with handles at each end. Wrap it around a fixed object (ie. a pole) with one handle in each hand bend at the waist until your back is flat (horizonal ) look up slightly (as is you are on a board) now just imatate paddling, alternating strokes and for a little extra try both arms at the same time. It's awesume. Hope this helps those needing help with there conditioning. 8) 8) 8)

Alternatively just take your board out and go for a paddle!

I totally agree that if you can get to the water on a regular basis....there is no question that is the best. Sadly with work, family, and life in general we all can't make it on a regular basis. Down here in So. Fl. it's hard to stay in surfing shape because we have so few days that there is any surf at all, and when there is because you haven't been training you have a short day due to being out of shape. So I thought this might help gliders like myself to get more productive days when there is surf. To those of you blessed with good waves :P :P :P SEND SOME OUR WAY :!:

I might do this. Its something I could do no matter what every night, even when I don't have time to get in the water.

You probably need to drink more beer.

IMO it's not about how good you are, it's about how good you think you are. Alcohol can be a big help with altering perception
