Keeping out of whitewater.

When I catch waves it is almost certain for me to get stuck in whitewater, but I know I can get out, but how do I keep from falling when a half hollow barrel crashes over me, where on the wave should I be to get the least impact, ect.

If you can't get going clean, and do abottom turn that gets u to the face....try taking off on an angle with the face. you should be able to angle to the open face, and get up while still on open face. then u just have to stay ahead o the white water. also don't start at wally beach break....try a point or reef

I get the bottom turn easaly (infact, I sometimes turn so fast my board slides and I fall), it is just there is a section that I can't get infront of before it breaks, maby I should try to catch the wave at that section, it will just make my ride a bit shorter. But I must say I probably will get more rides that way (more rides that last langer than 3 secounds)

If the section is collapsing just turn shoreward and get out in front then try get past it back onto the face.

depends on how small the waves that your surfing are. sounds to me that the waves are breaking fast and you can't gain speed because the waves are small or you just can't do a bottom turn properly. otherwise you will have to get to the very bottom of the wave, pump a little bit and that should get you back on the face

If you can tell that a barrel is going to crash on top of you, bail.

I often do, and I fell like a total pussy afterwards, but then I realize, I wouldn't made it out of that barrel even if I tried.

The good thing about bailing on a closeout is that you're still pretty much outside of the boneyard. Riding whitewater into the boneyard can cause you mucho damage, and waste valuable surf time.

It's a wise surfer who knows when it's time to bail. Worst workings are from waves that are spitting a lip, especially the ones that bap you upside the head and knock you for a loop. Those are the ones you definitely want to bail out on. Not only do you get tons of water down your nostrils, you also risk getting hit by your own board when the wave pulls it up into the lip and over the falls onto your head. Dive deep.

Plus if I don't get out of the whitewash I'l get dings and stuff on the rocks, and I don't want water dripping from my nose when I speak to someone.

Best part is when you are at work and you bend over to pick something up and a gallon of salt water dumps out of your nose. The carpet in that spot was never the same again....

haha, classic. I've had to re-print a few papers at work because of scenarios like this.. hah. Reach over to grab something on my desk and flash flood across whatever is underneath me. :x

Absolutely, if you don't want streams of salt water embarassingly dripping or streaming from you schnoz, don't take up surfing. It happens at the most inappropriate times...

^ Yea, but I'll like to limit those occations, for instance imagine asking a girl out and water spills from your nose onto her, that would suck bad.

Just tell her you were thinking about her while you were surfing and you wanted to bring something back for her. Unfortunetly that was the only way you could safely transport it.

I would rather bring my goggles and dive to get a starfish or something.

How would a live star fish be a romantic gift?
Pluss it's not being original. Girls like original gifts.
