What tips could any one give me with the transition from a mini mal to short board.
I keep swapping between min mal and short board, my mini mal surfing is improving but my short board is not.
Any advise would be appreciated

I'm the same...just keep practicing with the short board when you switch, takes a popup or two to find the proper footing....after that bingo! Same when I go back to minimal!

Don't get a short shortboard.
You shouldn't need to
learn a new board. If you get a relatively large shortboard the transition should just flow. But you'll get all the benefits of a thruster.
This advice may be a bit late for you.....

just surf your short board all the time, and you'll find that as you get used to it, you'll improve. also, remember to position yourself further forward when paddling, so the nose is just above the water, and you'll find it a lot easier to catch waves.
