Having a few problems with gaining speed when riding along waves and even on more powerful waves i sometimes lose distance of the ride as i cant pick up enough speed... when i lean forward the nose sinks in the water too much... and my general stance seems to be a bit upride.. probaly becasue i started on a longboard... Any suggestions

You got to work it. Get vertical and carry a lot of speed. Also constantly be aware if your trimming the board when you aren't turning. Relax and don't be a stiff.

If you're losing speed going along the face.... dont go along the face
Turn down the face of the wave, gain some speed, then bottom turn back up again. Repeat.

dbb has it. You need to continue to generate speed. The wave isn't going to keep pushing you.
So, go up the face of the wave, then back down it. As you go down, you will generate more speed. If you look at pros, they aren't just standing there going straight. they are moving the board up and down under their body, even if it's small amounts.
