Skateboards are for everyone. Whether you tried riding a regular skateboard does not matter. What matters is your dedication to learning all these concepts. They are not only an additional expense on your end but are perfect investments as well. :)

Especially when the OP is around any more.

But maybe he might be surprised that a popular surf coach/commentator on Youtube promotes riding a Carver for learning how to surf better.
( Well, for more intermediate / advance surfers, not beginners with bad habits )

I couldn't agree more. Surfing a wave in the constantly changing ocean is much harder than skating a hill. That said, surfskating is fun on it's own and keeps me stoked when I can't make it to the coast. :D

I skate streets and parks/bowls with my yow boards. Hard pressed to find something that better simulates feels and body positions of surfing. Doing Noel Salas drills have definitely helped my surfing as have free riding sessions with my kids. FWIW, surfskating just the past 10 years but skatboarding since the 70s.
