For me definatly (a). Learning to surf is as much about time in the water as anything else, my time is usualy governed by my fitness to paddle.

Well fitness , technique and the right board...:D

I think the main problem with some of my frustrations was that 2 of the 7 days I've surfed so far, the waves were too big for my skill level. The other 5 days wth 3-4 footers, calm winds, light currents etc....were very enjoyable. But hey, like the bumper sticker says..."A bad day surfing surf is still better than a great day at work"!!! I'll take surfing frustration anytime!!!!!

"a"

I spend all summer sitting in my pants drinking beer, thinking "I should probably start going to the pool soon and get fit for when the waves arrive".

Also not on your list - On days when the waves are few and far between sitting and getting cold in that North Sea, (see paragraph above for why I don't go for a paddle to keep warm).

My main frustration so far;
Trying to learn to duck dive when all I can hire are insanely boyant boards.

...and getting my GF to look when I yell 'watch me watch me!'

Ha ha!

My only purpose in life is to find a girl who doesn't get bored when I'm in the sea and is always looking at the right times.

That doesn't sound like a beginner frustration, unless you are just building your equipment inventory and need thicker wetsuit or boots etc. Sounds more like a "stinks where I live" problem. If only we all could live in Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Costa Rica etc. etc....

Not at all, I really like living in Aberdeen, the only problem is because it's so cold there's no "beach scene" as such. Girls look at you like you're some type if idiot going into the sea in snow blizzards, however if you drive a subaru or evo and like mainstream pop music you've got the pick of the chicks!

The cold water made me struggle when I was a beginner but it keeps the breaks empty!

I'm sure Aberdeen is a nice place to live. But you have to admit...it sure would be nice surfing to be out of you thick wetsuit and instead in shorts...crystal clear water and looking into a shore line filled with palm trees though.

My first post!

Postby DanKo » Wed Feb 28, 2007 3:29 pm

Man,

I guess all of the above. I find falling off the board immediately once I get to my feet to be probably the most frustrating. I've only been out 3 times, but I am buying my first board this week! I just moved to Puerto Rico from Colorado on Feb. 1st. I can't ski anymore, so I'll have to learn to surf!

Been doing this for 2 weeks...Tried yrs ago but never got into it..Have a new board now and it is sooo much better. I spent last week in the white water standing more often than not!

Wednesday though I was the only one out cos it was only about a ft lol. caught a fab wave though, before it broke and got up so easily!.

My main fear though is bugging 'proper' surfers, doing the wrong thing by them. had a bad experience yrs ago and live in fear of having it happen again!! :?

I know lol - thats my point hee hee - Its also why I stay in an area where there are no others - waves never as good but can then get dumped in peace and giggle when I'm standing without fear of being seen

I'm with you! As a beginner, there is enough anxiety and if you try and mix in with the more advanced surfers at a prime break you'll add to your stress and also risk making the more experienced surfers unhappy. Better to learn down the coast out of the way on smaller waves. Take a friend though...its never safe to surf alone.

I would love to Bub- but I have not long moved and the new friends I am making find it mildly amusing that I'm learning how to surf lol

nice idea though :)
