Starting alone

It looks like i´m going to start surfing alone since the people i know don´t want to and the guy that was most enthusiastic to start srufing is near pulling over.

Many people advice to not surf alone because of the danger if it happens something and i think it´s not very enjoyable in the start to go alone.

Had any of you had an experience like this?
Or your enthusiasm was too much to even think of that?

i taught myself how to surf alone. It can be frustrating, and sometimes you might feel like your ALLWAYS the worst in the water. however it is quite rewarding once you begin to turn, and start to know what your doing

chances are if you start to drown your buddy won't be able to save you anyway, so what's the difference.

Have to agree with this.

You know that part in "Riding Giants" when the bloke has his leash wrapped around a rock at Mavericks and he keeps getting pounded by the waves? Well the exact same thing happened to me, okay change the Californian coast for Aberdeen beach and a sharp rock for a wooden groyne, oh and 30 foot waves for 6 foot, but pretty much the same thing.

So here was me trying to get onto the beach, but this rip pushed me towards a groyne and my leash got wrapped around it, constantly battered by waves, blah, drowning, blah blah etc.

Anyway, my mate was about 10 metres away wrapping his leash round his board on the beach with his back towards me and I'm "Markggulppp, splutt choak, Maaaarkblurrb".

He couldn't hear me over the crashing waves and was too busy looking for chicks.

I had to save myself that day and since then my mate has left the country, so now I surf myself!
