Hi all,

Just joined the forum and started taking surfing lessons; go easy on me!

With regards the member whose scared of deep water; I wouldn't be hard on yourself, nothing wrong with giving the sea some respect. Do you get uptight being out your depth in, say, a large swimming pool?
If you don't i guess it's the 'out of control' feeling regarding waves, rip tides etc (understandable)

How about going out with some friends who are comfortable out there and take it step by step (or paddle by paddle!)

Just some thoughts, hope you don't mind.

Good luck, bet you'll get there

At least if you're out on a board, then you're never further than a leash length from something that floats!!

Because of the very nature of waves, unless you're surfing reefs then the water is never going to be THAT deep where the lineup is.

I would practise swimming - the stronger you are at swimming, the less you would worry about deep water

No one is scared of sharks?

I mean, scared of water? Water for me is ok.

What is scary for me is that one day I´m out there, alone in the sea, just chiling out while siting in the board, and out of nowhere I see something coming out of the water, and a damn shark comes and bite my leg.

Man, I swear, my heart would come out of my mouth.

.....Did someone say SHARK!!!!!!

Your sitting out the back and all of a sudden everything goes real still, the 20 other guys you were there seemed to have vanished......you realise you difted out of the line lineup..... that whole animal planet thing starts..... the small, the weak and the injured fall behind the herd to be picked off like a Big Mac with a heartbeat.......its natures way.....natural selection.....it replays through your mind over an over an over..............no, sharks dont bother me at all......
