How's it going Kaus here hanging out in Waikiki. I just moved to the area from the East Coast. I've always wanted to surf and I was given the opportunity. I'll quit boring you. Here is my question. I read on one of the websites that for beginners I should be looking at a foamie 9'. But I don't want to buy that big of a board. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Take it easy

i am learning to surf on a 7'2 funboard. It is a bit hard, but if you are going to practice often it will be ok.

It depends on how heavy you are
i weight 70 kg and am 1,87m height and think my board is great to learn on.

Foam surfboards

Postby surf patrol » Sun Feb 29, 2004 6:07 am

Hi Kaus,

A foamie 9' is simply the best board for an introduction to surfing. Easy to paddle, get up on and ride - and will not hurt if you fall onto. That said they are really limited to absolute beginners or small children surfing. Take a foam board out a few days in a row and it will have served its purpose.
If you are going to be staying in Wakiki you can probably get away with pretty much and surfboard (suited to your size as leolivi rightly states).
A minimal would be a sound choice. Make sure it is big enough to suit your size.
Hope this helps.
