Teaching how to surf

I was wondering if anyone thinks its possible to teach my cuz how to surf on my shortboard. Has anyone here learned to surf on a shortboard???

I learned on a 6'4 Aloha. It just takes longer to stand up etc but once you do it pays off bigtime!

i would rent a soft top first... my bro tried to learn on my 6' fish and ended up giving up after the first hour and never wanted to surf again...
but after the first or second day witht the softtop have them learn on the short,
use the soft top only to have them get the hang of it
