predicting swell in the philippines

Postby novice a_hole » Wed Aug 11, 2004 11:58 pm

I am about to re-locate to the philippines, and as a complete beginner I was wondering how to tell if an area has any potential for novice waves. I know there are breaks on the pacific side of the islands, but The area I am going to is on the western visayan side. can I tell by looking at maps or weather forecasts or somesuch?

well the key to waves is two things:
1) how exopsed the land is.... if its surronded by islands you wont get any break. if there absolutly nothing around it like hawaii is... you can get some nice swells.
2) storms... the only thing that generates a wave is a strom.

knowing this sthe west side probably wont get much at all, but the pacific side can get some huge ones... or if theres no storm for days can get some small stuff. when you get there ask around or go exploring.
