very special questions on surfing in indonesia

hi, we need some advice on surfing in indonesia in august. we are currently in thailand and are planning to head down to indonesia but don't wanna go to bali or that far south as we need to head back up to thailand. we've never surfed before in our lives so we need some good waves for beginners. any suggestions of anywhere that we could head to that is safe, closer to thailand than bali and good for beginners, thinkin of goin to sunatra but not sure. we've only got 2 weeks to learn do you think that'll be long enough? also do you have any idea of the price of renting a board? appeciate any answers to any of these questions!

#1 Not near long enough.

#2 don't go out if it's too big.
