try 'A' street in st. aug. bch. (south of the town of st. aug). miles of easy beach break as you work south...there a shop where 1a1 turns inland from the coast before you get to the bridge (as you head north to town) that rents softops (sorry, can't remember the name), but there are also other shops on a1a between st. aug. and crescent bch where you might grab a rental.
in cocoa, i'm sure ron jons has something to rent (just be aware that as you get better, you'll want to spend less and less time in there) and the pier nearby is newbie enough...if you want to get away from euro-tourist, head south on a1a to a spot called '2nd light' (across the street from patrick air force base). there you can jockey with the orlando crowd, but still easy enough. truth be told, you have a hard time finding a wave anywhere this week in that area that's beyond beginner level. unless, a tropical disturbance fires up in the eastern gulf this weekend and moves across the peninsula to the atlantic (predicted chance), then watch out for rips and sideshores.
