I just moved down to Tallahassee from New Jersey, was wondering what people know about gulf coast surfing areas nearby Tallahassee?

Tally's a tough spot....the coastal areas closest to tally are mainly tidal/marsh areas and the predominate swell angle is horrible for that section of coast. your best bet is going to be panama city on the gulf coast....west from there is also good (destin, ft. walton, p'cola) until you reach Alabama Point. pretty much nothing after that.

work on the paddling. while the gulf can get good (usually not more than head high+ though). almost everything is short period windswell over beach break = long paddles and strong currents.

if you're willng to spend an extra 15-30 mins on the road, go east to jacksonville...the poles(hannah park) and jax bch pier will be the easiest to get to. i'll spare you the directions since they are both pretty easy of find. hit the bouy reports and swell models before you go. especially this time of year. enjoy. go gators!
