Some beginer questions....

Hi, I took a two hour surf lesson last week and I am hooked. I rode a 9' BZ softboard. Anyway a couple of q's.

1) I want to get my own board soon-as renting is a pain. Whats the best way to choose one? I know I want a larger long board. I am 6'2", 225 pounds. From what I have read, I need a pretty good size board. Are the soft top boards worth buying? Or just used for learning, rentals?

2) Would I be ok getting a spring suit for rear round use? I live in southern CA. Just don't want to buy two suits if I can get away from it.

Thanks for any help you can spare.

I think the best thing to do is go down to your local costco and get a nice popout. Thats what I did at first. They're fairly affordable and don't look as uncool as a foam board.

about the wetsuit, I'm pretty sure they make wetsuits that are convertible into a spring or full suit, but in so. cali, I'd say you would be just fine with only a full suit for winter and cold days and just your swimsuit and rashguard on hot days.. I live in so.cali and thats what i do =)

Np. I think around $325 for 7'5-9ft and approx $215 for the short boards.

Thanks. Plus, at Costco, you can return anything, anytime, forever.

They use to have them. Realm is the make. The Costco's in my area-north San Diego county don't have them anymore. Might have sold out. They also carried the Realm brand spring suit. I think it depends on the market. There not gonna sell boards at the Las Vegas Costco.

They don't sell surfboards at Costco in OR, but they do down here in Orange County. To your original question, I have a shortie I wear almost year-round down here. Protects from the sun, never gets too hot. You'll want at least a shortie for winter though, it's not as cold as the water in, say, Cannon Beach, but, you'll be glad for those extra millimeters in February. Plus it protects your back from getting scrapped up when you get tossed.
