are the waves really bad in Florida?!

Postby Cake » Sun Jul 11, 2004 9:40 am

Hello!

I am off to Florida for the summer from grey, cold manchester (is it really July?!!). I really want to do some surfing but I hear that the waves are not too good. Does that mean the waves are not good if you are any good?!

I am still only learning (and not very good yet) so will the waves be good enough for a beginer? Any ideas about the best places to go?

Thank you!

I hear Cocoa beach is good, but if you're heading to the Jacksonville area go to Hanna Park. They have a place called "The Poles" which is really good.

i don't know how much of a beginner you are, but florida is a great place to learn, small waves though. as far as good places go, Ponce Inlet near Daytona is pretty good, and not as crowded as Cocoa Beach. St. Augustine is pretty good too. unfortunately, the waves are only like 2ft-ish anywhere in fl

There are about 6 pro surfers from Florida by the way. anyway summer is pretty flat here but when we get a swell it can be alot of fun. It's not alwase 2ftish here. when we get a good ground sweel it can alwase start at around 5-6 ft. It does degrade pretty fast but deffinetly surf New Smyrna.
