Surf Schools in Croyde or Newquay

Planning on doing a weekend trip and have never surfed before. I found a few schools on the www. Does anyone know anything about them, or can recoomend a good one.

What sort of things should I look for/ask a surf school when booking?

I did the same when I learnt to surf. I highly recommend Dolphin Surf School in Newquay. They have nice accommodation at a cheap price too. All the instructors are really experienced and have loads of qualifications including beach lifeguard etc. I had a fantastic time and the instructors are all really friendly and give excellent advice. It's really personal and they give you individual time. It's right by the beach too - plus they take you to wherever the best waves are (suited to your ability) which most other schools don't AND their prices on half and full days are very reasonable. I've been there several times now - everyone who surfs with them seems to go back because they are soooooo fantastic!

Any of the schools listed on the BSA website are BSA approved and thus sound. Prices may vary obiviously....

can i just second that recommendation for Dolphin surf school.

They really really really are excellent. I know them all quite well, they taught me to surf. They make sure you have a good time, they care about you, they are honest - they will not take your money off you if it's a bad day for beginners, like some surf schools do.

I can't praise them highly enough. I always take any friends that come and visit me to Dolphin for a lesson, everyone just seems to have a good time there. They are just honest.

One thing before booking - check out what their refund policy is if the conditions are 'unsuitable'

If you're booking in advance, then its as likely as not that the conditions will be flesh. They'll not give you your money back if its flat, but many of them will give you a voucher/credit to come back at some point in the future when there are waves.

Other schools will take you out for a 'surf' even when its more or less flat
