rashes

well well, where to begin. im a beginner, but i have the help of a friend who is pretty good. he is teaching me alot and taking me with him alot, and im catching on quite fast. my duckdives need a little work, but i can get them at least. i can stand up, but im having a little trouble turning down the faces, but im catching on to that too. we have very crappy surf here in texas. it can be nice, but it takes perfect conditions. most of it is windblown so its very disorganized and hard to find good lines. this makes us work extra hard lol. well i just baught my first board, i baught an Al Merrick K-Board with some FCS Kfins on it. Nice buy at 400! Shes in perfect shape, came with the fins, and an awsome traction pad. Well i keep getting very bad nut rash. this is no joke and i have even baught a new pair of boardshorts over this issue, and i got it again the other day when we went surfing. HOW DO I STOP THIS????? this is extreamly annoying and painful lol. i need to stop it, because we are hitting mexico this summer, or florida if trip plans fall through, and i will be surfing everday. nut rash willl hinder my learning on good waves and i dont need that lol. so please someone, help me save my nuts!

ouch

I usually wear "rash-vest" shorts under my wetsuit or boardies. Mainly because it's so frigging cold over here but that may work for you. Or Speedo's or something.

OR a good dollop of vaseline normally sorts out friction areas - I'd just be careful how publicly you apply it. ha ha ha.

OR - I think Billabong have just invented some seam-free boardies with the intention of stopping any rashes. They may work (of course they could just be a very clever marketing gimmick to get us to pay an extortionate amount of money for a pair of boardies!)

sometimes its just the boardshorts. try different shorts and you might find out it doesn't happen with them. GL

I'm a newbie too, but my dad has 40+ years in the sport and I was complaining about this to him the other day, and he said to make sure to wash the shorts frequently, not let the saltwater dry in them, and to take them off ASAP after surfing, even wear just a towel home if you have to. Don't wear the salty wet shorts all day.

this all sounds like good info, but i just got rid of my old boardshorts, which were awsome, but they gave me rash. so i baught a new pair of billabongs for like $53 bucks. and i still got it, so im thinking its something else. will vasaline stay there through all the rubbing and water and surfing? dammit im just out of ideas, and this is painful lol.

I'd be tempted to go the speedo's route in that case.

I cannot even begin to imagine what you're going through and I am SO glad it's not me.....

I have never had the rash problem, but boardshorts do have a nasty tendancy to 'bunch up' - particularly under a wetsuit.

I bought a pair of unpadded lycra cycling shorts which I wear under my suit. What you may find is that you could wear a pair of these, under your boardshorts so that you don't look silly, but don't get chafed either.

Worth a try!

Cheers
