wet suit differences

So, I'm in Cornwall where the sunshine does come out now and again but the water is always a little chilly.

What thickness are wetsuits available in? And what thickness makes one a winter suit and another summer?

I'm a wimp frankly and it seems sensible to buy a winter suit for all year round surfing, is it going to get too hot in summer???

wet suits go from 3/2 to 5/4 and even 6/4 i surf on the east coast with a 5/4 all year round minus boots,gloves and hood in the autumn. You may find that a winter suit is gonna be too warm for you in the summer, so unfortunatley you could probably do with buying two. Unless you plan not to surf in the depths of winter so a 3/2 will probably do for the nicer parts of the year

I have a 3/2 which I wear all year round (that's how much of a man I am!!)

If I were you, living in Cornwall, you will be too hot in a 5/4 in the summer. Not because of the water, but the sun will beat down on you.

I would look at a 4/3 if you can find one. I know that Fistral Surf stock the Salomon S-Core suit in a 4/3. You may be a bit chilly in the depths of winter, but you'll be toasty in the summer.

That said a 3/2 is easily comfortable from March through to November. So you only really miss a couple of months.

I was in Perranporth and Great Western this weekend for 9 hours in my 3/2 and I wasn't cold at all.
