True that, and right in your priorities. :D

I got curious and browsed the craigslist in NH area. Honestly, I got a sticker shock. Picking is slim and longboards are all pretty pricy. Then this one caught my eye. It's located somewhere near Portsmouth I'm guessing, t's Torq so probably epoxy, and around 8' if not more. If I have $$ and need a board to replace the old bic, I'd seriously consider it and worry about fitting in the apartment later.

I've been to Jenness Beach to Hampton area in August when it was VERY,VERY glassy and FLAT, so I have a pretty good idea of what it's like over there right now. And I have work + family obligations making it very difficult to take extra time to travel for better spots also, so I totally feel for your pain.

Yah, $350 isn't that cheap to me either. I also saw another one, 7'10" poly minimal for a little less but it was in VT. Do people actually make a trek from vermont to surf??? That's quite a drive.

people make the drive from Montreal regularly :)

I'm an idiot, instead of buying shortboards over the last three years I should have saved up

To be honest I am a bit intimidated by Rye on the Rocks, it seems like an advanced spot and I wouldn't want to get in the way.
But to put things in perspective I am actually lucky compared to 99% of the world's population when it comes to access to surf.
:D

I'm surfing around Santa Cruz. There are guys ripping all over the place. It can be intimidating, but if you want to develop skills, then you need the grit to ignore the intimidation factor, keep surfing, and begin tackling the skill of entering a better lineup without kooking up the place. I suggest you start surfing the scraps on the outside of the peak. Go the long way around to get to your spot so there's no chance of getting in somebody's way. It improves your paddle strength and understanding of the surf spot. Practice not getting in anybody's way (sounds stupid, but this is actually a skill in surfing, in my opinion). Once you reach a section of the wave that's a little way from the peak, watch the surfers taking off on the peak and wait until somebody blows their wave. You get the good left overs and I guarantee you that you'll get better waves. Frankly, that's what you need to progress. You'll also have a great view of how the locals surf the place. The other surfers will know you're there and they'll know A) You're not getting in their way B)You're surfing the leftovers C)You're not a problem. Over time they'll know you respect the place. Eventually you'll start moving closer to the peak and, if you're not kooking up the waves, you'll be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Surfing engages gear shifts of weighting and unweighting as a continual transition, dancing but not wearing lead boots of being fixed in position.

Great analysis. I find that I often land in a double footed stance from my popup and I don't shift out of that position very well. I usually end up weighting my back foot too much and stalling while the pocket of the wave moves on without me. Arghh.

Dunno brah... unless a local wrote this to discourage people, Rye on the Rocks sounds pretty gnarly. I'd rather take on The Wall. Not worth the hassle for me:

Also it's possible resident parking permit is needed, I can't remember since I haven't driven by in a while.

Yeah this is another thing I have been working on. I wish I got longer rides to get the reflexes established, because right now I have to think of shifting to the correct stance and at times forget.

Yeah, I see your point. Still, nothing like investigating things to see if they live up to the hype.
