Hi All,
I have a little bit of a dilemma about boards. I have been surfing at least once a week for the past couple months and am still a beginner but my skills have been getting better. I own a 7 foot super fish but that was too hard for me to pop up on at this stage, so I have been just going out on either my 8' 4 mini mal (which is a little bit fidgety and performance based according to one of my surfer friends, something I was not aware of when I bought it) and also a wavestorm. I thought I was doing just fine on those and could catch waves just fine and pop up and ride them in, although at times felt a little bit like I was catching a lot less then others. Another surfer let me borrow his 9' board the last time I went and in just 10 minutes I caught three waves SO much easier and the board felt so much better to me in terms of getting into the wave early and just in general felt much easier and more stable, and ultimately more fun, which is what surfing is all about! Any ideas on whether I should stick with my wave storm and minimal, or switch to another board that would be more fun and better for my level (as this one was). I am thinking of trading the mini mal in for another board that catches waves easily in a variety of conditions (thicker funboard rather then the performance mini mal?) and is stable, and all around fun and versatile so I can improve my surfing without getting frustrated. Thanks in advance for any input on a board recommendation etc.
