Beginner looking for tips

Postby Guest » Thu Apr 01, 2004 12:10 pm

Heya,

I'm heading to San Diego this summer for about 4 months and am planning on doing as much surfing as possible, only surfed two or three times before, so I'm not sure what type of board to buy at first, any suggestions. I'm willing to spend a reasonable amount and ideally don't want to outgrow the board anytime soon!!

Also wondering whether I should get lessons or not as I'm quite impatient when it comes to getting taught stuff!!!

Cheers.

Hi

Surf lessons are good but not essential. It's fairly clear from watching what you have to do. The schools will give you some excellent pointers though. Maybe if you could get like a 2 hour lesson to get you started that would be good.

If you want an all round board that you won't grow out of - I always recommend mini-mals, but any board that has quite a bit of buoyancy. (I'd go for about 6 inches taller than you and fairly thick)

Hope this helps
