One thing Ive noticed about surf schools (not sure if it's just a southern CA thing) but they get crowded. And I feel like if you are in a big crowd, its very easy to NOT learn as much. There was one school that used to surf close to where I did, and I noticed that the kids that got the direct connection with the teachers were the ones advancing, and the kids on the outside edges just listening weren't getting as much (it seemed).

So I would suggest looking to see if you can find a school that has been doing it for a decent amount of time, has a good reputation, but not too over crowded that you'll get lost in the group. :D

Good luck. Most importantly.. have FUN! Surfing is all about fun. :D
