Board for a comeback

1st of all GREAT SITE!!! tons of information.
-Hi I'm from Puerto Rico, I'm 35 yo, 170 lbs, 5'9". I use to surf a short board back in my teens, I could stand, ride straight and turns, but all basic stuff, never advanced from a beginner, and now I want to get back at it. I know at this time I'm 100% a beginner again and proud of it, but I want your guidance and comments on how to get back. I will probably take at least 1 lesson.

Well I my have my eye on 2 board already, tell me based on the history above what you thing or I'm I looking in the wrong direction.

bigger the better mate, even after a few months out of the water i feel like a bit of a beginner again let alone 20 odd years. 7'4 could do the trick tho. fitness etc depending. but if you can afford to buy another board in a few months of surfing regularly i'd probably just get a longboard now to start as you'll probably be thinking about buying one for smaller days anyway in the future.

Thanks for the reply man, make a lot of sense bigger the better to start again. I was also thinking about bying one of those foam board from COSTCO 8' to start and trou arround

like i said, only if you can afford to buy another one when you're up and running... but yeah, foamies are great fun, couple of mates run the local surf school up the road, and often borrow one from them during the summer when the waves are small even though i have a 9'4 monster (bout 4 inches thick)... nothing like a 10ft foamie to wreck heads with on the really small days.

also, as you don't have to worry about dings you can ride them all the way into the shoredump when the tide is a bit high.. sometimes ride em in and get little coverups on them just before the wave dumps... great thrill riding a wave with nothing but sand in front of it for a second or two. little dangerous and only ever seem to injure myself on small days (messing around) but anything for a laugh.

Hey dude, you can I have a similar history. I surfed as a teen and stopped for 17 years. I recently started again, and I'm also 35 now. I surfed a few sessions on a rental on a day to the beach with friends about 2 years ago. Got totally hooked. I'm on my 3rd board now. Started with a 7.3 mini mal, rode 8months, got clever and bought a 6.2 pop-out which I could not ride at all, then went to a 6.4 flyer. Which is awesome. Go every week-end. Welcome back.

Thanks again, I'm leaning toward a Bic funboard I found new for $350 7'4"
