Board Stance (Please help)

Postby Rogue_Shadow » Thu Sep 10, 2009 6:01 pm

Hello

Ive recently got a 7"2 minimal, I love it, Ive definately improved my pop-up technique along many other things. However ONE thing that is really holding me back and getting me frustrated is my stance once poped up

What happens is I catch a wave and pop up (rarely using the rails now) However i cant find the perfect balance. Im either to far forward and water overlaps the nose of the board or im to far back and I fall out of the wave and stall.

When im too far forward and water starts to overlap the nose I lean back to justify this but by then ive lost most of the force behind me. :unuts:

What can you advise me to do? Where should i position myself on the board and should I be leaning in any direction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :woot:

You should be leaning in every direction.

As well as finding the sweet spot on your board, which is just a matter of trial and error really, you need to be shifting your bodyweight back, forward, up, down, side to side all the time. It sounds like you're trying to find one position on your board and for your stance - but unless you're a longboarder on a very clean wave, its not like that and you need to shift your weight all over the place.
Weight the back foot, for instance, but then immediately weight the front foot again to regain the drive before you stall.
