I have a 7'3 minimal and getting to the stage where I should really start trying to catch some green face waves.

However, I cant really get out back. The waves round here are mostly onshore slop things.

Being a kook, I cant really get through all the white water. Ive been told to go round, but am not sure how because the white water just carries on all down the beach.

Being new, i'm also a bit worried about the way the ocean works! When i'm outback and i cant get any waves (because I'm a rubbish surfer) I'll just drift back in shore wont I?

One of my biggest fears is just being left drifting out to sea :)

Thanks for all your help and advise.

if you cant catch white water waves and stand up first go and trim left and right on them...you shouldnt be going out the back yet.

stay in wasit deep water and practice surfing white water until, your ability level grows and your understanding and feeling of the waves and water grows.

Having just returned from a west-coast surf trip, where the swell period was long and the lineup was crowded, I see what you guys mean about hanging on to your board. There's no way you could safely drag it. But then there's no need either, as the waves aren't so close together.

Since you have a large board the eskimo roll will work if it isn't too big. Just pull the nose down while eskimo rolling and you should be able to get outback.
