When to surf and when not to surf

Postby JupiterSurfer » Wed May 14, 2008 2:04 pm

I'm pretty new but have progressed to standing up regularly. I am currently riding a 10'6. Sometimes the conditions are stormy, fast breaking and steep. Not suitable for a 10'6. I usually go out anyway but end up taking a beating and not catching waves. Should I stay in on these days and wait for more sutiable conditions?

As long as you feel safe, I say go out. If you feel safe, go for it. Those "stormy, fast breaking and steep" days will help you surf better when the conditions are better. Just be careful.

Don't let yourself get pissed off when your not catching many waves though, can really ruin a session.

Depends on your level , if your not going to learn anything, and not going to have fun why go out?

Paddle out! Do or die!! Death or glory!!!

...or perhaps more realistically, if you're confident you can get out and get back in again safely, then give it a go. Conditions can be deceiving from the beach, and sometimes that blown out mess can be fun.

On the other hand, any doubt, come on in.
