Water temp dropped from mid 70's into the 60's from last Saturday to last Sunday, overnight...
Don't expect it to warm up again until next summer. Yes, I surf San O, but not so much San Clemente. See you at Dogpatch on 09.15?

ah, i also hear hurricane dean had something to do with it. i've been surfing sano everyday almost either at dogpatchs or old mans this summer. and yes, the water did get cold overnight and i was totally baffled. well thanks for the headsup about the water staying colder, great thing i just bought my first wetsuit today, i'll start using it. mabye i'll catch you at dogpatches. i'll be the asian dude out there somewhere with a white becker board.

I don't think Dean had much to do with it, although I could be wrong. I can't see how the tropically heated air could cool down the water...
I'm thinking one of the deep trenches off the coast came up, meaning that some kind of disturbance pushed the deep cold water to the surface somewhat. I've seen the temps change alot more radically. Went out in upper 60 degree water, next day, easilly in the low 50's. Caught everyone by surprise. La Jolla Trench is just off the coast and the cold water can be forced to the surface by tremors etc.
