Surfing near the mountains

I'm not sure if anyone can help me or if this place even exsists, but im looking for a place to move after college on the east coast USA. I would like to have great surfing within 5 minutes, and good hiking/snowboarding mountains within an hour drive. sorry my geography isn't that great. any know any places like this?

Ok...so sking/snowboarding isn't much of a hobby/option if you live below Virginia so throw out the southern states. Also if you look at the Appalacian mountains, the further north you go...the closer the mountains bend towards the ocean and but the water is colder etc.
I live in Fred. Co MD....its 1/2 hour to 1 hr to several ski resorts (albeit not world class ones) and 3 hrs to surf points.
I guess Baltimore, Philly, Jersey, NYC all can get you within 2 hrs of both beach and mountains. The further north you go the longer the snowboard season and thicker the wetsuit you'll need. Keep that in mind. If you like summer surfing in board shorts (July thru Sept) MD and Del. shores are you're best bet. Depends on how much snow/warm weather you prefer.

Great lakes. Pretty much anywhere on the lakes is near half decent skiing/snowboarding. Its not the same as the skiiing out west, but it will do.

Sorry, I know of no place on the east coast that is like that, but most of southern california you can be within 10 minutes of surf and less than two hours to mountains and skiing (in winter).

ummmm thats pretty much an ideal situation i dont know if you can get. I live in Philly, the Pocono mountains are about an hour 1/2 away for snowboarding (its descent when there is snow), and an hour away from the ocean. I guess if you move to central jersey near the beach you'd have those waves and once again about a 2 hour drive to the mountains. Thats pretty much as ideal as you can get on the east coast.

meh...if you like to freeze your balls off and be bored all the time. if your close to the beach in NH you'll be hours away from vermont.

I live on L.I..... about 5 mins to the beach and about an hour and a half - 2 hours to the closest mountian

I'm not really a city guy. i was thinking either North Carolina OBX or Maine. North Carolina seems more reasonable cause i could probably still boardshort a few months a year

I've been to OBX many times. It is great surfing destination. But the mountains are probably 2+ hours away at least. Aside from tourism, fishing, construction etc. I don't think there are too many job opportunities in OBX area. Not sure about Maine though...except is really cold for most of the year. I hear its beautiful up there. I really want to make a road trip sometime up through Maine
