the latest Harry Potter book... is anyone bothered?

Postby thaya » Thu Jul 19, 2007 11:33 am

I have a few friends in their 20s and 30s who are really into harry potter  :?: :?: :?: I must admit, I've read most of the books and thought the first three were quite cute for kids, but I started getting really bored and couldn't be bothered to finish the last one which I borrowed from a mate.

I'm undecided as to whether I should bother reading the new one on my long flight to Hawaii. it might help to pass the time and take my mind off flying, but it's gonna be heavy, bulky and possibly as boring as the last one... and would it make any sense when I only got up to page 400 and something of the last one?

It's probably easier just wait for all the films to come out. people are bound to summarise the whole book for me anyway by saturday evening... is anyone on here a Potter fan?

Yes, I am a Harry Potter fan. I read lots and lots of books anyway but love the Harry Potter books. I am going to Tesco at midnight on the day it comes out to pick up the book and some beers and will start reading it, I realise that sounds quite sad but I really do not care. I want to know what happens and I have run out of books to read again.
I sincerely doubt I will stay up all night reading, not deliberately anyway. But if its a good book and I dont feel tired then I'll just carry on.

Doesnt sound like your into them so I would just get something else to read. What books are you into?

....and as with everything, the film is never as good as the book!

hahahahaha, no jokes I know how it ends. There was a leak on the internet i happend to see.....Dont worry, I wont give it up....

I am going to get it still, makes for a good day or two of reading. I did the half blood prince in about a day. I have always been a fast reader. I really enjoy reading, lets my imagination play.

I really enjoy the books....especially weird cus I dont think I hit the target demographic....23, and athletic. Though i have always been a big reader. I was just reading that the curch of england is using Harry Potter as a teaching tool about morality and making good decisions.

Yeah I have read all the previous books cos my girlfriend is a huge fan, and I will read the new book when she's finished and after I've read all the Star Wars books I just ordered :D .
I also saw the new film the other night and thought it was pretty average. It was a really difficult book to make a film of tho. It just seems to link up several bits of the story without having a big major story and the film left out quite a bit although it is a pretty long book so thats perfectly understandable I reckon.

A certain online book store has had my pre-order for most of the year. Considering I'm living the worst week of my life (to date) the prospect of having some brain free escapism is really keeping me going.

Saw the new film last week. Was OK, trouble ism the books keep getting bigger and bigger, and it's impossible to fit all that into a movie that'll keep young bums on seats.

That's why I'm worried about the hollywood treatment of "His Dark Materials" which is due out later this year...

oh! is that the ones by Phillip Pulman with the character Lyra? Really looking forward to that! I do know what you mean, it may not translate very well onto screen but I remember reading those books thinking this would make an amazing film.

....rather conscious that this thread may be painting me to be some kinda fantasy novel nerd like Comic Book Guy off the Simpsons

why read when you could be surfing?? Although i have read a couple of good books, but i rather magazines, because you can read a story that looks interesting without having to read looooads of letters, words and pages
