I dont think there is a max size. Most of the time that you see people on boards with foot straps there are being towed in.

I've seen that clip dozens of times and it NEVER gets old!
That's from riding giants isn't it?
Anyone know where that wave is? Or wanna hazard a guess as to the 'face height' ? My guess is "fleshin' huge" !

This is the beginning of the film Billabong Odyssey. Mike Parsons surfing a 66 foot wave on the face, which won him a cheque for $66000 as the biggest wave that year.
It's at Jaws or Maverick I can't remember now, but it's tow in, and I kinda think that cheating a little, I'd give it a go though!!!

i know they get towed with a rope. but its not like being on the ocean... you are going much faster on the sea than on the lake..

Can you imagine falling off right in the impact zone of that wave?
Can anyone say worked?
Now try it again with

you don't need to be strapped to your board untill you can no longer paddle into a wave. basically. although it is possible to get towed in without straps, most people decide to wear them as it's easier and safer in huge surf

It couldn't be Maverick; the water is too clean!

Didn't Ken Bradshaw ride like a 70ft something wave at Log Cabins?
