is there any way to get your pace back? i used to be lightning quick when i was a couple of years younger. (im still only 18) just played in a football game and most of my pace is gone. im just wondering if it will ever come back and how to go about it?

If its paddling; the swim. If it's running, the run! Simple.

Swimming will help, or any leg workout, or try jogging with ankle weights !

Another year on the beer, then the surfing will suffer too

i think perhaps lack of pace has something to do with the fact that i havent run properly since 2004 not so much the beer.

That will do it! If you don't do it, you loose it. You can get it back (maybe not 100%), but it takes a lot of work.

You wanna start doing more running then; definitely a good way to put a the spring back in your pace

.. steal something from Marks & Spencers
failing that ... running and more running with a side salad of cycling
( The CheeZe management would like it known that although M&S are 'well minted' and can afford the financial loss of the odd pizza .. we would never condone such actions) .. i thank you.

Running, a pace that you can jog/run for upto 30 - 45 mins without stopping ( not out of breath) would be a good start, if you can`t manage that long, slowly build up to that time. This will build on your endurance, hence giving you a better pace.

If your looking at building cardiovascular endurance then another thing to try would be fartlek running, it's a bloody stupid name but it's good sh*t.
Basically whilst running, you increase/decrease your running speed over the course of a few mins, so for a min you might sprint, then jog for 2 mins, then go at a medium pace for 2 mins then sprint for 30 seconds, etc. Keep it varied.
It stops the body getting into a routine and and settling into the speed; flipping knackering though!
