So there's loads of people on here chatting about moving country and hijacking other threads :bigoops:

So about time we had a real thread. :blah: :blah: :blah:
I'll start....

Hopefully Im off Sydney in September. There's still a possibility of me taking a different job before that... but despite the job being much better, it's in the UK... so Sydney is pretty much certain now :D

Got the job, visa is slowly beginning to happen - it'll be a temporary working visa for a couple of years (because I really want the Living Away from Home Allowance....) then will get a permanent one after that.

So who else is going where? 8)

I left sunny Shoreham on the south coast of the UK about 3 1/2 years ago, moved to the South Island of NZ.

Haven't regretted it for a minute. Ever. Shite wages and expensive to live, but great waves on the doorstep, and great snowboarding an hour and a half from home, and an incredibly beautiful, friendly, safe country too.

My plan is to try and get out to NZ or OZ before i'm 30!! So I got 4 years.

Starting my new job in a week in the gas/oil/water industry so 3 years experience should get me out there (fingers crossed). All for a better quality of life, even if the wages are lower, and the hours are longer, it's still better living.

I cant stand the attitude of people in London in particular, and the UK in general. And it makes me lose my rag too easy, so I turn into One Of Them. Time to get out and find a better lifestyle. With sunshine and waves 8)

Would like to head to Oz but the thought of setting up a job and going through all the red tape is kind of putting me off.....so I may head off to Spain instead, it's not quite Oz but having lived all over feels like my second home...

Sunshine and sound people....this country drives me mad

With you on that one, i worked in London for a while....road rage, rudeness and generally no respect...and it's spreading

Plus it's not until youre out of the country you realise how bad really is

I'm going to NZ in August or Early Sept on Working Hol visa, but hope to have a job ready and take a full temporary work visa.

After about 1 year, I will have the necessary work experience to get my Aus visa, so I can move to Sydney where my sis lives (family sponsored subclass 138)

BUT my old boy knows a fella whose son runs a business in Sydney, and who happens to be recruiting graphic artist right now, so I am hoping something might come of that and save me a year of my life!

I'm 24, and have travelled quite extensively in that part of the world, worked in Sydney, so I know what I am going to and why, that's for sure! And it's AMAZING! :-)

Let's do it.

Lived in New Zealand on a student visa for a year, long term plan is to get back there. Hoping to do my PhD out there but will also be looking at Australia and possibly the states. Sounds a bit pathetic, but it also depends on who i meet along the way, what with my fondeness for blokes with southern hemisphere accents i expect thats probably where i will end up!

Good Luck to all of you that are emigrating. I have been here in OZ for 14 weeks and love it. It is a world away from the hustle, bustle,PC friendly UK. Life here is slower and the social aspect is so much better. The surfing is great, even though I am rubbish at it (and my ribs still hurt so now 3 weeks without a surf  ), but surprisingly most Aussies are helpful towards me!

If you have thought it through and you know what you want and your willing to give it a go and accept some downs then you could have a great time. Margaret River is a 2 hour drive from me and last week it was pumping down there. My mate said it was the biggest he'd been out in. He didn't catch a wave all day and he's a good surfer so it must have been big.

If any of you guys are thinking of coming to Perth or WA give me a shout and i'll give any help I can.

I'm having no truck with the concept of 'thinking it through'. Right back when this plan started, it was a random email and a random post on this forum.
Six months later and, much to my surprise, Ive got a job in Sydney, and am moving out in a few months. Thinking has played no part in it so far

Probably explains why Im so lost under the mountain of paperwork (soon to be an avalanche) I'm presently buried under and why my list of 'things to do' gets longer and longer without anything ever actually getting done

Hey, as a career path goes, its worked so far

Permanent. Bought a place there, selling everything I own here except my surf shorts, 2 shirts, computer, and my pots and pans and cooking knives.
It's kinda "burn the bridge and don't look back" :D
