Richard Dawkins talk

Well. This may upset some and enthuse others, but anyone with a half hour to spare, watch this. It is a talk by Richard Dawkins on religion and perhaps a call to arms for the down-trodden American atheist population? I don't want to start any major religious discussion as a new member, but I really think that as people who use nature for our pleasure, we all need to have some sort of viewpoint and more to the point an understanding of just how wonderful the world we have is.

Depennds on how youlook at things... negative or positive... tho of course it is increabaly niave to belive that there isn' anything wrong with the world.. :?

Personally I'm always in aw of my surrounings, fasinated with how things interact and change/work etc... becuase its truly IS wonderful. The not so wonderful part is of course our presence... Humans.

When reading Richard Dawkins, might also be wise to see if you can get hold of a paper called 'The Spandrels of San Marco and the Panglossian Paradigm: A critique of the adaptationist programme' by Steven Gould and Richard Lewontin, published in 1979. Dawkins is brilliant, but he's perhaps a little too overly 'adaptationist' from an evolutionary biologists perspecitve......

I've normally got a lot of time for Dicky D.

However I’m not so sure about the whole atheist movement. I don’t believe, but I’m not going to wave my fist out side of churches and proclaim, “You’re not going anywhere and neither am I.”

I think he should keep this atheist thing to shagging Mrs Garrison.

If the athiests don't like the religionists pushing religion and belief on them, why do they think they can push their beliefs on the religionists?

Maybe I am getting it all wrong here....but maybe everyone should spend more time surfing and less time trying to impose their will :D

just my 2/100's of a quid's worth of opinion.
