One of my electrical items has broken... I know it's still in it's 1yr warranty and I will have kept the receipt, but it could be in about 1 of 5 places, (1 being a very large storage box which has about 5yrs of receipts thrown in randomly). Should I waste an hour or two trying to find it? Does anyone actually have some good system/ organisational skills for storing your receipts? Just wondering...

and jo- do you seriously keep all the boxes? I have to thrown mine out (*cough... erm recycle*) as soon as I've opened them... I can't stand having loads of boxes/packaging taking up space. I guess it would be easier to find the receipt though...
I've been looking for about half an hour now (or it feels like it) and I still can't find it

well no.. not ALL the boxes!! But things that are likely to come with instructions and whatnot

such as my phone/horse clippers/computer/TV (which lives on top of its box as I cant afford a table/shelf thing to put it on

)
the receipts for most things just get chucked in an old shoe box. I have about 5 years worth !!

I'm useless with receipts! Mind you, I'm useless with filing / storing anything neatly!
Just to give you a clue how bad:
My desk-!

1)I throw loads away, or stick them in draws around the house.
2)Then it gets too much and I get bored one day and they all get sorted and filed in a box file (u can get one specially for household stuff from Smiths).
3)The about 2 years later revisit step 2.
If you lose anything blame someone else for tidying your stuff away.

Receipts have a seasonal migratory route that goes 'pocket (24 hours), wallet (between one and five weeks), in the bowl of coins and keys by the front door (two to three weeks), hidden under the bowl by the front door (one month to two years), bin'.
So as long as I know when I bought it, I can locate the receipt.

This thread reminded me of the first episode of Black Books... Anyone remember that?? THe one where he's trying to do his tax return, and ends up making a suit out of all the receipts.....

you know what, that actually sounds like quite a good system!
I ended up searching for 2hours, everywhere, and couldn't find it. Even tried the fridge-freezer (just incase). How annoying

Most of the time they go straight from pocket to bin, but for expensive/ guaranteed stuff I generally keep them in my smelly stone bowl (not a bowl made out of smelly stone, but a bowl with scented stones) until the guarantee runs out.

I have some really nice receipts that I got from a shop. I framed them and they are now hanging in my lounge.
