i can't sleep :(

I've been trying to get to sleep for the last two hours. no success. I tried having a nice relaxing hot bath with lavender oil... then I made my bed with nice fresh sheets and put on some ultra comfy pj's, warm, just out the dryer. I listened to relaxing music, read a chapter of a book and then resorted to counting sheep, which didn't work. I tried counting fit blokes jumping over those fences, but that just made me laugh... I've just had a bite to eat and a hot drink... that didn't work either, so I got up and started doing some work on the computer. I'm bored with it but wide awake. It's so annoying. I've got to be up in 6 hours and nothing is working. You know what, I think I'll go for a walk round the block and get some fresh air... maybe that will tire me out???

What do you do when you can't sleep? Is anyone on line at the moment?

great advice   unfortunately that's not an option for me right this minute...

I went for a walk round the block. It was dark and there was no one about. After 5 mins I decided it was probably best to head back... but it made me realise why I can't sleep. I couldn't put my finger on it until now but now I know what it is and I can sort it out. Problem solved!

unfortunately I'm still up....

have been doing loads of reading though - isn't it just great finding out new stuff! I've caught up with so much news too - got some excellent resources for my lessons, you know clips and things.

thanks... I've got plenty of drugs I could take to get to sleep, I just didn't want to take them with having to go to work in a few hours  There's nothing worse than going into work semi-conscious and unable to walk in a straight line or talk, especially when you've got to deal with hundreds of kids!

I've got to be up in 1&half hours. So far, I've read lots of interesting and weird news stories and looked at some really random things on youtube. Plus I've done loads of research for work and stuff. Quite a productive night all in all.

I may as well start getting ready for work now... it's almost 5am. I could make a packed lunch and have a nice shower... maybe treat my hair to some serious conditioning treatment...

catch you all in the morning...
thanks for the PMs!

i remember somewhere in a psychology class that sleep aid drugs are addictive and you build tolerance fast, excercise should be done 3 hours before sleep, forcing yourself makes it take longer (like counting sheep), and writing down things that are on your mind, or a list of to-do's for tomorrow helps. and reading with semi-dim lighting. bright lights release a hormone that keeps you awake

The best trick is exercise.

i bet most labourers don't have a problem with insomnia.

I hate it when that happens!

Oldiebeginner was nearly right btw, it's not so much the sex as the orgasm apparently...

I find that it's best to put the TV on and try to find something I want to watch. If there is nothing decent on I will sometimes put a movie on, or maybe calm music. Reading a book also helps. If you can stand it you can try drinking a glass of warm milk...it doesn't bother me but I guess it would gross some people out. I used to have trouble getting to sleep when I was younger, but rarely do any more....I attribute that to having become a "labourer". (Seems like chris fixxy was right  )
