I was surfing Boscombe pier a couple of years back on New years day, it was hail stoning and about 20 oaps got in for a swim in their speedos/cozzies!! I think its an annual thing they do. I was in winter suit, boots, gloves and hat.

I would say hypothermic in about 15 minutes....that is all dependent on how the water is moving, and how submersed he is. Though there is a dam good chance he wouldnt be out there that long.

maybe he's one of those guys who deliberately jump into freezing cold water to supposedly reduce the chances of having a heart attack if they were ever accidently submerged in icy cold water. I saw a program about all these old people jumping into freezing water thinking it has health benefits. I think they're completely mad

If it's the guy I normally see he is out there for about 20 - 30 mins and constantly running in a large circle in and out of the water.

Opening Hours
Meet at 10.45am to swim at 11am each Sunday October to April inclusive. Changing faciltities and hot drinks avalable. Members are also welcome to meet informally May - September for summer bathing at 10am each Sunday.

theres a whole sub culture dedicated to people that like swimming in cold water.

Fair play to them I say, its nice to see people enjoying the sea.
