i think so. thats not to say its malicious, though sometimes it may be that as well. ("they'll be sorry when im gone") lots of us are depressed, its the easy way out. to me there seems to be no argument, but a lot of people seem to think otherwise..
i think people who wont admit that suicide is a selfish act are just overly sensitive about saying something negative of a dead person. because for some reason we have to respect the dead. as if it respect isnt important when theyre alive. id rather be respected in life. spit on my grave, i dont care. just not infront of my family or friends.

I think that everyone will have some time in their life where it seems like everything is going wrong, and nothing can make you happy. It may seem like killing yourself is the only way out.....Well news flash for those people is that everyone goes through that, and there is always someone worse off then you....
Get over it...man it up, and carry on.

well suicide can be considered selfish.
because alot of people cared about you, and when you died, you made them sad.
intresting question.
hmmm

You dont kill yourself for someone else, you do it purely for yourself, therefore it is selfish by definition.
In most cases its also a stupid move, unless your facing a debilitating life ending painfull disease or something, you can always improve your life/situation.

Yeah, agreed with pretty much everything said. It absolutely destroys everyone else around you, which is awful. And if it's to the point that you want to kill yourself, it's probably not going to get much worse.
A switch of topic, but how do you like the physc major? It's something that's always kinda interested me. The human mind is an interesting thing.

its ok, you should check out jobs available though. school counselors, parol officers, its a pretty popular and general major (and somewhat useless)
most people go on to graduate school, law school. marketing, law enforcement...
im not going to graduate school, i want a job working with small groups of autistic or other special needs kids.but i dont want to change daipers. i hope to find a job i like that i dont even need the degree for, and work my way up. so somewhat waste my degree.

No no, you've got it all wrong.
Suicide is PAINLESS.
Stopped you looking like an ar$e at the next karaoke night.
No thanks needed.

There's that song, I can't remember the name of it, but the chorus goes
Suicide is painless,
and it brings on many changes,
you can take it,
or leave,
as you please...
Anyway, as to the selfish thing - depends how many people you'd upset! personally I think it's the cowards way out although there have been times in my life when I've thought about it, but then I think everyone does at some point.
If somethings upsetting you that much, talk about it, maybe that'd help.

When your in that situation, you dont tend to think about other people, with a cloudy mind nothing makes sense.
I have a few mates over the years that have topped themselves, if that is the only way out for them, ive learned to accept it !
We all have problems, its how we deal with them !

Suicides generally are never completed and just used as an attempt at attention.
When someone does die, it either went horribly wrong (the fake attempt) or he/she had some serious issues!

very random post but......
suicide usually follows prolonged depression which, as an illness is selfish in its nature. Im not saying people who suffer from depression are selfish but tend to be more introspective and when become ill this leads to more introspective thoughts so they loose perspective on life and evetually take their own. sometimes people cant handle life and dont want to burden themselves on the world so feel the solution is to remove themselves from that world - what may not enter into the minds of such people is the burden of guilt they are leaving behind.
there is of course the attention seeking aspect where people need help but cannot convey who desperate they are for help so take drastic action in the hope that others will understand the situation they are in, without having to go through the difficulty of trying to explain it in words when they may not understand why they feel that way.
I too have a strong interest in psychology and other people.
