Im getting stupidly over excited already

Looking pretty good for this weekend!

Ok, this is something that's come up quite a few times, but how useful is magicseaweed in truth?

That does look pretty good, but optimisticseaweed has let me down before, badly. And Croyde is a LONG way to drive from west London to get flesh all surf...

MSW is just a start... an indication... as to whether it'll be any good or not.

So things to look at...

The period. Thats normally pretty reliable. <10s bad, >10s good, 14s+ very good.

Direction. MSW a bit iffy with direction. For croyde, you'd be wanting a westerly swell or thereabouts. If it says its northerly or southerly or (heavens forbid) an easterly swell, then take with a hefty pinch of salt.

Wind is pretty simple, but remember that an offshore wind can blow it flat if its not a big swell.

Height - the killer of many a prediction!
This is quite break specific. For instance, the south coast wont be working til it shows 8ft (and then you'll get a kneehigh wave). Croyde is better, but you can still knock 3-4ft off as a rule of thumb.

So at the moment, its looking like a small (waisthigh) wave, with a really good period, and an offshore wind.

The problem will be if that wind gets too strong for the fairly small swell.

Keep an eye on this one - could be good....

Wouldnt the increased period hike up the 'actual' wave height and power?

My understanding is that for a wave to have a good long period of, say, 15s then it must have been produced a long way off so by definition must be proper groundswell so the end result is 'yes, it does'

Wednesday is looking the best but the wind is a relatively heavy 12mph westrerly and im not sure if the swells big enuff to get the point working ,but thursday has sckive written all over it, could be the 1st time for well over a month to surf more than 3 sessions in a week

i`m perhaps going down sunday morning -was meant to be going friday when it looked better- but work won`t let me have the day off!

Small, possibly very small, but very clean

don`t think i`ve been out before in clean waves yet!

i`ll have to check the forecast on saturday before we go down

Yeah, I look at that one too. They all use slightly different models, so best bet is to look at them all and see if there's some kind of consensus!

As there is potentially clean waves this weekend, there'll be updates on this thread later in the week.

Forecast for the weekend - small but very clean surf. Should be a good fun wave, particularly saturday afternoon.

yep, although, i don`t think we`re going now though! i have a feeling i might be getting my first kite surfing lesson...

if we do, it`ll be sunday though as i play footie on saturday afternoons.
