Holiday (non-surf)

Hey guys,
I know between you lot you've pretty much travelled all over the world so I want some tips about where to go on holiday next summer!

Had a think about a surfing trip, but as we are 1).kooks 2).alcoholics and 3).a bit broke we are planning on saving our money and pride (the little bit that's left!) and next year spending a load of weekends away around the UK to surf, camping, drinking gin and cider and having a good ol' laugh. Also, as iomarti and el_timmo know, I am EXTREMELY paranoid about el surfboards...like, I spent a 5 hour drive up to york bricking it once we'd bought them!! So don't fancy air-planing them. So.....

We want to go somewhere with - beach near it/pool at hotel or apartment, nice weather (ie. hot and sunny!), and most importantly GOOD FOOD!!! No tourist English crap...

To get an idea...we spent 10 days in Vietnam and it was the best holiday of my life - food and culture were amazing.
And at the moment we are thinnking about going to Bodrum...Sean went there a few years ago, and loved it. We both love food, he has a bit of a meat fetish!, and want to go somewhere you can still feel the local people/area etc. instead of 'we have to make everything English for the tourists!'

So come on, experts, help me out!!

The Pelion in Greece, or some of the less developed islands.

Bolivia - but only if you like your holidays of the adventurous variety!

The Inner Hebrides in Scotland is a great place if your not looking to spend too much money.

All sound good to me, but it is persuading the man who is more up fr the sun and sexy ladies style hol.

I like a little of the extreme...spent a few months in Thailand teaching English adn then a bit of travel afterwards with not a lot of money, so may well be an option, but we are thinking about making that into a mammoth honeymoon travellers trek across Asia.

The Pelion peninsula (mainland) is really cool too because its very untouristy, and its very green and mountainous - loads of long walks along old donkey tracks (pebble paved paths through the hills). And lots of traditional style town squares with proper tavernas.

I havent actually been to the Pelion, (i've been to a few of the greek islands) but my parents have been travelling in greece for 35 odd years, and the islands are generally too well developed for them now, but they've been to the pelion a couple of times in the last few years and have raved about it!!

If the bloke really wants a more cosmopolitan place, maybe you could spend a week in the Pelion and a week on one of the larger islands (Rethymon or Chania on Crete are both quite big but still very pretty)
