Cold sea water = sore skin

I know I just write about my woes but my skin is killing me from the (short) cold water surf that I had today and loads of Eczema patches have popped up. Turns out the problems with my ears was due to Eczema in my ear canal of all places which made them hurt and itch like hell(which is wierd cos I never really suffered from it before)- subsequent sticking cotton buds in my ears caused the infections.

Cant be bothered to go to the doctors to recieve the 'you're wasting my time' look but my face is red, blotchy and itchy. Wooo -Im looking good right now!!- Does anyone have this kind of problem in the winter? - any advice to prevent it is appreciated

Exezema is linking to stress... salt water supposedly calms the actualy irritation... where did you surf and are you stressed"?!

I surfed at boscombe yesterday. Im usually a complete stress head but have been holiday for a month where is nearly dispaeard completely.

I have picked up some kind of virus (just cough and stuff)and this usualy makes it worse.
I dont want to not surf just because my skin get iritated. My unprotected face hurt the most so I assumed it was the cold.
-I may be wrong to go out for a short session now, I'll avoid the scalding hot bath afterwards as that definately cant have helpped!!

Cheezee, thank you so much for your considerate offer!

I'm going with the 'ignore it for long enough and it'll go away' method at the moment, but if that doesnt work I'll be sure to shout for your bulk buying baby oil option

Might be the first windblast of te winter you've had. I find my lips get a tough layer after the 1st one and it peels in a day or so. Weird!

Prob jsut general wind burn plus your a little down physically cause of your cold. Lets all the ofther things get in :(

Cheers guys - I went out again saturday when the sun was fairly warm and the skin on my face wasnt as bad so I think like you said it was the cold and wind - hopefully it'll go away or I may try the barrier cream thing.

However, later in the day I had the same red blotches (only much, much worse) appeared everywhere and they itched something crazy and the bumps and stuff came up!!!!! Turns out it I also had some kind of allergic reaction to something and this was Urticaria (aka Hives), could be a lot of things but i havent had it since and Ive never had an allergic reaction before. Im thinking it may be the blankey I have my post surf nap under. Its older than me - but I think its been washed a few times in its life! Hopefully it wont come back - otherwise theres always Aloe Vera and antihistamines (sp?) until i figure out whats doing it.

Just a bit of (random) advice, and I know it's not easy to follow this:

Don't skimp on the hot bath afterwards, since this will minimise any cell damage from the cold.

Just make absolutely certain the water temp is 42'C or lower. If it's hotter you'll cause a mild burn.

I know this coz I saw it in a documentary about germans during WW2 and pilots crashed in the English channel... blah blah.. but I promise, 42'C is the magic temp.
