Landlocked in Oxford

Greetings one and all!

First off, great forum guys, I've picked up some top info from the surf travel threads.

Just wanted to see if there is anyone out there also from the Oxford area that would be interested in catching lifts to the coast. I generally surf the south west but will travel to were ever is best (within reason!).

Only one of my mates surfs and he spends most of his time up at Uni in Hull, so in term time I generally end up driving down all Billy No-mates and that’s starting to get a bit expensive!

Usually got space for a couple of peeps (big car + roof rack for sticks.), so if you too are landlocked in Oxford (but are not an axe murder or anything!) pm me or add to this thread and we'll see what we can work out.

See yaz,

G

If your mate who surfs is at uni in Hull drive up there instead of the SW and surf the E Coast with him.

That I do!

However, my mate never seems to get a lot of time to get wet in term time. The other problem being the general lack of a ripple up there or (more probably!) my general lack of ability to predict it accurately! Plus the point of trying to find anyone local was to try to save some money on gas and stuff. Hull is as far away from me as devon is, so it would end up about the same cost.

It was all mercenary reasons in aid of getting in the juice as often as possible.

Oh, and maybe make a few new surf buddies along the way! :)

Ok, I apologize to all northern surfers there. That was a gross generalisation

I did go on to say that I am perhaps a bit crap at converting swell data into real conditions on the beach. The times I have made the journey, data said yes....surf said no!
When it comes to the south west I'm pretty much wired in, but I've never surfed the north/east much before so it's still a bit of a mystery to me.

Guess I'm just gonna have to do some more homework!

Lol, I have lived in the north-east for a year now and surfed half of that...and I am still RUBBISH at predicting surf!! I am planning on becoming Surferdude_Scarborough's best mate so he can shout me when it might be good. Plus, he is super-lovely about telling me when he's going anyway, although I once blew him out for a hot shower. Love IS blind!

I understand your probs about getting there....I live about an hour's drive from the beach and begrudge wasting my petrol and going there for 30mph winds and mental wind chop. Tightarse, eh?!

But mate...well pedantic..I think Leicester is the most distance city from the sea....

i thought there was a tree somewhere in leamington spa that signified the furthest point in britain from all coasts??

neways ellie are you coming to the north east meet on sunday?

n er you should have come to south bay that day instead of holding out for a shower cross offshore at south bay :P

Oh well Ellie, looks like your gonna have to do your homework too! :D

I tell you what, if you get any hot tips about the North, tip me the wink and I promise I won't tell anyone else! :D

Scarborough, your absolutly right. I can't remember the name of the park but there is an oak tree planted there to signify the furthest point from the sea.

I'm only about 60 miles away from that tree so I'm nearly as far from the ocean as I can get!

So in light of my geographical error, I have changed the location in my profile to suit
