waterproof camera or case

Been looking at getting a waterproof case for my digital SLR for an upcoming trip so I can take some pics while surfing, snorkeling, swimming, etc. Can't find anything, been searching the web but no luck. Tried a camera shop, they were idiots. Haven't had time to go back to a different shop. Any suggestions? Or would I just be better off to get a cheap one-time disposable underwater 35mm and use it?

Probably need to check with a dive shop, as that is the only place I have seen cases that can handle SLRs.
edit- search underwater camera housing. found a couple of sites that offer SLR cases, at first it says 35mm but if you click further it says that they work for digital as well.

Check this place out. I just got a catalog from them , and they had several water proof housings listed. They have cheap ones, but if your looking to get a good one be expecting to pay more for the housing than you did for your camera. B&H is a great place. I bought my last camera, and lens there.

Apparently they are always advertising one in surf mag, like 150 or 300 bucks, I think.

Sweet. Thanks guys. I went onto the internet and found a couple at those sites listed, I found one in my Surfing mag and I even phoned a dive shop and they have 2. So, all your suggestions worked, I am going in tomorrow to look at some of them and I will make a decision.

Have you visited Camersunderwater.co.uk its the best site for UW equipment and spares, An EWA Marine housing/pouch woul be ok or surface and shallow work, just turn your back on any breaking waves to avoid over pressurising the housing seals.

Thanks Mikey. I checked them out online. Won't order from them as they are in the UK and I am freezing my ass off here in Canada (-42C today with wind chill ) but it gave me more ideas of what I want. Found a few good options, will be getting something in the next 3 weeks.

So since we are on the topic (sorta) of cameras, is manual focus 35mm cameras completely obselete for surf photo?

My bro's gotta cannon ae-1 that he never uses that I think I'm gonna bust out, I'm not too fast with focusing though. (I've gotten used to the SLR auto)

Never actually tried surf photo yet. i would think that if you are set up on a tripod on the shore it would work great, maybe just a litle more time focusing until you get used to it. But in the water? i think that you would need an autofocus, especially if you use a waterproof housing and you can't get to the focus real well. ANd with it film, you can't just check to see if you got the surfer in focus or not immediately. Got to develop the film to see.

Waterproof to 5 metres...........you cant go wrong!!

It'll be a lot cheaper than buying a waterproof case for a 35mm

Before you make the plunge, read some reviews and take suggestions from the forum. Don't aim too low when choosing a camera. I've never heard anyone complaining that the camera they bought is too good.
Don't rule out used and refurbished cameras from dealers and manufacturers.
